Caring for Geographic Neighbors

Text:  Proverbs 3:27-29 International Children’s Bible (ICB)

27 Whenever you are able, do good to people who need help. 28 If you have what your neighbor asks for,

don’t say to him, “Come back later. I will give it to you tomorrow.” 29 Don’t make plans to hurt your neighbor. He lives nearby and trusts you.

Scripture Reading: Proverbs 3:27-29

Reflection: While we are sheltering in place I’ve noticed more of my neighbors out and walking in our neighborhood. It’s been great to see people (from at least 6 feet away) that we haven’t seen or talked to much this past winter. This passage in Proverbs reminds me that there is an expectation for us to help out our neighbors as soon as we know there is a need. The sense of urgency in verse 28 seems very appropriate for the current times.

Prayer: Dear God, please help us be aware and responsive to our neighbors’ needs. Please also give us the courage to communicate to others when we are the ones needing help. Amen.
