Our Church’s Wilhelm Organ
The Wilhelm Organ in The First Congregational Church of Ann Arbor was built in 1985. It is a three-manual, 36-register, mechanical-action instrument. Built in the German baroque style, it also includes elements of the French romantic, so it is a perfect medium for both German 18th century and French 19th century organ music.
The builder, Karl Wilhelm, maintains an active organ-building shop and creates five to ten pipe organs each year. All such work is custom-built, and every part has been carefully perfected. Such work demands loving care and dedication, and Wilhelm, indeed, has demonstrated that.
The First Congregational Church’s organist, Marilyn Mason, is chair of the University of Michigan Organ Department and university organist. Dr. Mason continues to perform throughout the world and welcomes many international organists to Ann Arbor to experience our world-class organ.
